What is hydrogen water?
Put simply, hydrogen water is ordinary drinking water infused with molecular hydrogen (H₂) — much the same way sparkling water is infused with carbon dioxide (CO₂).
The science is young, but it is growing fast. In 2007, a team led by Prof. Shigeo Ohta reported in Nature Medicine that molecular hydrogen acts as a selective antioxidant. That paper opened the field to serious study.
Since then, more than 2,000 studies on molecular hydrogen have been published by researchers in Japan, Korea, China, the United States, Germany, Mexico, Serbia, Slovakia and Ukraine.
Hydrogen-rich water also has a negative ORP — a measurable sign of its reducing (antioxidant) potential that you can check yourself with an ORP meter.
What is a hydrogen disc — and how does it work?
The Living Aqua disc is a compact element made with a specially developed magnesium-ceramic blend that turns ordinary drinking water into hydrogen-rich, mildly alkaline water.
The blend was developed by Ukrainian biologist Prof. Oleh Pokotylo, Doctor of Biological Sciences.
Once the disc is submerged, the water reacts with the magnesium-ceramic blend and its properties shift:
- 1 The water takes on molecular hydrogen (H₂) — an antioxidant that helps neutralize free radicals.
- 2 The oxidation-reduction potential (ORP) drops, making the water antioxidant-active.
- 3 The pH rises, giving fresh, mildly alkaline water with a soft taste.
The same reaction happens naturally in a handful of rare springs known for hydrogen-rich water — in Japan, Mexico, Spain and India.

Does the disc purify water?
No. The disc is not a filter and does not remove contaminants. Use it with water that is already safe to drink: filtered, bottled or reverse-osmosis water. If you drink tap water, filter it first.
How is a disc different from hydrogen tablets or an electric hydrogen bottle?
A hydrogen tablet is single-use: one tablet makes one glass. An electric bottle needs charging and cleaning. A disc is reusable — each one works for 2–3 months, or up to 53 gallons (200 L), with no batteries and no charging.
What should I do before first use?
Rinse the disc under running drinking water for 20–30 seconds, soak it in water for 1 minute, then pour that water out — it’s just for rinsing. After that, the disc is ready for daily use. Full instructions are in the box.
How do I know it’s working?
The easiest signs are tiny bubbles on the disc and a softer taste. To measure it, use pH test drops or an ORP meter: in lab tests, ORP dropped from +263 mV to negative values within minutes.
How long does one disc last?
2–3 months of regular use, or up to 53–58 gallons (200–220 L) of water. After that, the disc keeps working, but its output gradually declines.
Does the disc need cleaning?
No special cleaning needed — just rinse it with clean water after use and let it air-dry. No cartridges, filters or replacement parts.
Can I put the disc in tea, coffee or juice?
No. Only still drinking water up to 122 °F (50 °C). Tea, coffee, juice, carbonated drinks, milk, alcohol and acidic liquids will make the disc ineffective.
Why 5 discs instead of one?
So you can keep one wherever you drink: at home, in your work bottle, in your gym bag. Used one at a time, a set lasts about a year. Discs are not sold individually.
Will the disc fit in my bottle?
The disc is 1.8 in (45 mm) across. It drops easily into a wide-mouth bottle with a 2.2–2.4 in (55–60 mm) opening, but won’t fit a narrow-neck bottle.
Is the material safe?
Yes. SGS tested the material against hygiene standards for materials in contact with drinking water: lead, cadmium, mercury, arsenic, chromium⁶⁺, copper, zinc and aluminum were all within limits. A safety data sheet (MSDS) under EU regulations is also available.
