pH by color: yellow — acidic, green — neutral, blue — alkaline

A liquid indicator for checking the pH of your water at home. A few drops change the water’s color: blue means alkaline, green neutral, yellow acidic. A quick way to see that your ionizing pitcher is working.

How the pH drops work

It’s a liquid pH indicator: a few drops show the water’s reaction by color. One look tells you whether the water is acidic, neutral or alkaline — no instruments needed.

Living Aqua pH test drops: a few drops tint the water, and you match the color to the pH chart
A few drops — and the water’s color shows its pH on the chart.

Add the drops

Add 5 drops to 50 mL (1.7 fl oz) of the water you want to test.

Shake

Shake or swirl the sample — it takes on its color within seconds.

Match the color

Compare the shade with the chart below to find the pH of your water.

The pH color chart. The more alkaline the water, the closer the color gets to blue. Blue means mildly alkaline water — the kind the Living Aqua pitcher makes.

Yellow

Acidic (pH below 7)

like soda or coffee

Green

Neutral (pH about 7)

typical of tap water, with no marked shift either way

Pitcher water

Blue

Alkaline (pH 7.5–9.5)

mildly alkaline — the kind of water the Living Aqua pitcher makes

Why check pH

The drops are a simple quality check for your water. They show at a glance that your ionizing pitcher is working — and hint when it’s time to change the filter.

What a pH check gives you:

  • Before the pitcher, water turns yellow or green; after it, blue — you can see the filter at work.
  • When the water stops turning blue, the filter is used up — time to change it.
  • You check your water at home in seconds, no instruments needed.

Keep in mind: pH shows how alkaline the water is, not how much hydrogen it holds.

Don’t drink water with the drops in it — it’s an indicator for testing, not a drink.

Answers to common questions

Can’t find your answer? Leave your number below and we’ll call you back.

How long does a 10 mL bottle last?
About 40 tests. The bottle holds about 200 drops, and one test takes 5 drops per 50 mL (1.7 fl oz) of water — enough for regular checks for a long time.
Are the drops safe?
They’re safe to use, but don’t drink water with the drops in it — it’s an indicator for testing, not a drink. Test a separate small sample, and drink clean water straight from the pitcher.
What pH should drinking water have?
The EPA recommends pH 6.5–8.5 for public water systems — a guideline for taste and pipes rather than health. Water at roughly pH 7.5–9.5 is usually called mildly alkaline; that’s the range the Living Aqua pitcher gives, and the drops turn it blue.
Do the drops measure hydrogen?
No. pH drops show how acidic or alkaline the water is — not how much hydrogen it holds. Water can be alkaline with no hydrogen at all. To measure dissolved H₂, use hydrogen test drops; our article Alkaline water and hydrogen water explains the difference.
